Coast Guard Maritime All Hazard Response Unit

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Petty Officer 2^nd Class Devin Horoszewski, a crewmember at Coast Guard Maritime All Hazards Response Unit at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia, writes down commercial fishing vessels, which are in port at Barney Dock in Atlantic City, N.J., Dec. 9, 2009.

The six-man unit has been tasked with reporting all high-risk commercial fishing vessels in accordance with the Coast Guard’s Operation Safe Catch, which is focused on increasing the rate of compliance with safety regulations by interacting with the commercial fishing industry to improve their risk management practice.

The crewmembers of the unit also conduct Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training to all Coast Guard stations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The unit is responsible for training all Coast Guard stations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware in boom deployment to take the basic steps to safely mitigate pollution impact to the environment.

UNIT SPOTLIGHT: Vessel Boarding and Security Team

The Vessel Boarding and Security Team is located at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore, Md. Their mission is to detect, deter, and respond to terrorist activity and ensure the safety and security of critical infrastructure in the Port of Baltimore. The VBST performs more than 100 boardings a year in the Upper Chesapeake Bay and the National Capital Region on commercial vessels. There are currently seven active duty members and 29 reserve members serving with the VBST. Members of the VBST go through extensive law enforcement training, weapons training and first responder training such as first aid and CPR. The VBST conducts training both internally and externally with its federal, state and local law enforcement partners.

UNIT SPOTLIGHT: Station St. Inigoes

	Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes, a small boat station in St. Inigoes, Md., averages approximately 100 search and rescue cases and approximately 300 boardings annually. Station St. Inigoes is responsible for Homeland Security missions, search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and marine environmental protection.

Station St. Inigoes routinely conducts training to keep members proficient in their line handling skills. Station St. Inigoes operates and maintains the station's 41-foot utility boat and four 25-foot response boats.
