Coast Guard assists local agencies in response to marina fire in Washington, N.C.

FORT MACON, N.C. — Coast Guard crews are assisting local agencies in a response to a marina fire at McCotter’s Marina in Washington, N.C., early Friday morning.

At approximately 1 a.m., Coast Guard Station Hobucken, N.C., watchstanders were notified by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department of a fire at the marina. Station Hobucken responded by immediately launching a 24-foot rescue boat crew.

At least 25 vessels have sustained damage due to the fire. The Beaufort County Fire Department responded on scene and has contained the fire to one pier.

A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Hobucken is currently on scene monitoring the situation and has placed boom in the area to contain any debris and pollution from the fire. A cleanup company has also been contracted to respond to the scene.

Coast Guard pollution investigators from Coast Guard Sector North Carolina are also on scene to assess the amount of pollution caused by the fire.
