Coast Guard crew medevacs 1 near Barnegat Light, N.J.

BARNEGAT LIGHT, N.J. - The Coast Guard medevaced an 88-year-old female Sunday after she fell down a stairwell on the 570-foot cruise ship she was aboard 50 miles east of Barnegat Light.

The Coast Guard received a call at 9:15 p.m. from a crewmember aboard the cruise ship Veendam, homeported in Rotterdam, Netherlands, reporting the woman had suffered a head injury.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and transported the patient to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City were she was transferred to awaiting medical personnel.
