Coast Guard medevacs two passengers from cruise ship in Chesapeake Bay

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Coast Guard crews medically evacuated two women from the cruise ship Carnival Pride as the ship made its way through the Chesapeake Bay near Lynnhaven Inlet at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The crew of the Carnival Pride called Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders at 11 p.m. Sunday and requested a medevac for a suffering 60-year-old woman aboard.  As the ship made its way further south in the Chesapeake Bay to transfer the woman to a Coast Guard boat crew, an 80-year-old woman was diagnosed with an irregular rapid heartbeat and also needed medevac.

A Station Little Creek 45-foot response boat crew arrived near the Lynnhaven Inlet at 3:21 a.m. and picked up the women and their husbands to transfer them to awaiting EMS.  Both couples were taken to Sentara Bayside Hospital emergency room in Virginia Beach for further treatment.
