PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Military kids chose from more than 1,000 toys in the gymnasium at Coast Guard Base Portsmouth, Thursday. Each child, from infant to 10, was able to choose two toys.  The event was organized by the Toy Industry Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to give free toys to kids of military families.  The event occured during National Boys & Girls Club Week 2010. Military parents from the Coast Guard, Navy, Army and Marine Corps brought their kids for the toys.

Many parents who brought their kids for the free toys were also waiting for their spouses to return home from a patrol on the Coast Guard Cutter Northland. The Northland returned to port at Base Portsmouth just a couple hours after the toy give-away.

For more information about the toy give-away, see a news release on http://d5.uscgnews.com
