Coast Guard assists with medical transfer in N.C.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - A Coast Guard helicopter crew flew a 78-year-old retired Coast Guardsman from the Southeast Avon Medical Center to the Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City for further treatment Saturday morning.

The man needed further lifesaving actions that were not available at the medical center. He could not be transported by road due to closures caused by severe weather and flooding.
