LITTLE EGG INLET, N.J. - The Coast Guard rescued a 65-year-old man from the water after the 40-foot boat he was aboard sank near Little Egg Inlet, N.J., Monday.

The Coast Guard received a call at 9:53 p.m. from a member of the Beach Haven, N.J., Police Department reporting one person aboard a boat taking on water in Little Egg Inlet.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and rescued the man. They transported him to the Beach Haven Yacht Club where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

"When we arrived on scene, we found the man holding on to his deflated life raft and he was not wearing a life jacket," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Paula Herrera, a crew member aboard the rescue boat. "Fifteen more minutes and he would not have been so lucky."

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for hypothermia.

The Coast Guard urges all boaters to wear life jackets when on the water.
