Coast Guard recovers two from boating accident in N.C.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City recovered two people from the Pasquotank River, east of Weeksville, near Little Flatty Creek at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday.

Pasquotank County 911 called the station's watchstander at 4:44 p.m. reporting an unmanned boat was going in circles and people were in the water.

The station responded with a 25-foot rescue boat crew.  They arrived and recovered a man and his wife as he walked out in the shallow water carrying her. The crew performed CPR on the unconscious woman on the way back to the station where they were met by EMS.  The two were taken to Albemarle Health hospital in Elizabeth City. The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
