UPDATE: Coast Guard Captain of the Port re-opens Gilmerton Bridge waterway

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Coast Guard Captain of the Port in Hampton Roads has re-opened the Gilmerton Bridge waterway to all vessel traffic Friday afternoon.

The Army Corps of Engineers have conducted a survey of the damage sustained to the bridges fendering system and navigation lights. All debris from the collision has been removed from the water by Crofton Diving.

A temporary fendering system has been installed along the bridge pier to allow for safe transit.
