UPDATE: Coast Guard closes Gilmerton Bridge waterway

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The Gilmerton Bridge waterway remains closed Friday to all vessel traffic due to a collision Wednesday afternoon on the bridge's north side fendering system and navigation lights.

The Coast Guard is issuing a safety marine information broadcast for the closure of the waterway for all vessel traffic from Money Point to the Interstate 64 bridge.

The Army Corps of Engineers are conducting a survey of the channel to determine when it can be re-opened. Debris will be removed by Crofton Diving, a company contracted by the Mcallister Tug Company.

There is no damage to the bridge.
