Coast Guard crews respond to fuel leak in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – Coast Guard crews along with local HAZMAT teams responded to a diesel fuel leak at the Salt Ponds Marina early this evening.   

At approximately 5:00 p.m., the Salt Ponds Marina reported a fuel leak to Coast Guard wathcstanders at Sector Hampton Roads. 

HAZMAT crews from Hampton and Newport News Fire Departments responded and deployed harbor booms to contain the leak. Coast Guard investigators reported that at least 200 gallons of diesel fuel leaked out from an underground fuel pipe which supplies two 10,000 gallon tanks. Coast Guard response crews have reported that the leak has been secured. 

IMS environmental has been contracted to conduct clean up of the diesel fuel. Coast Guard crews will remain on scene to monitor clean up efforts.
