Portsmouth native supports international effort to help Africa

Legare crewmember changing a filter

ATLANTIC OCEAN - Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael Daniels, a machinery technician aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Legare, secures the fuel filter canister on the main diesel engine after changing the filter, Thursday, July 16, 2009.

Daniels, a native of Portsmouth, Va., and the crew of the Legare are supporting the Africa Partnership Station mission off the coast of west and central Africa, under the direction of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, 6th Fleet.

The APS is an international effort aiming to enhance regional and maritime safety and security in Western and Central Africa.
