Coast Guard announces waterway closure for Jordan Bridge removal Sunday

Closure to last up to 72 hours

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard Captain of the Port of Hampton Roads is closing the Elizabeth River in the vicinity of the Jordan Bridge at 5:30 a.m. Sunday as the City of Chesapeake removes the bridge's lift span.

The waterway will be closed for up to 72-hours, until the removal is complete, from the Belt Line Bridge to the Norfolk and Western Portsmouth Chesapeake Railroad Bridge.

No vessel traffic will be permitted to transit in this area without prior consent from the Captain of the Port or his designated representative.
