Multiple rescue crews respond to capsized vessel near Lynnhaven Inlet, Va.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Rescue crews from the Coast Guard, Virginia Beach Police Department, Virginia Pilot Association and the Patapsco Maryland Pilot Association responded to a report of a capsized vessel near Lynnhaven Inlet, Va., Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a mayday call at approximately 9 a.m. involving a capsized vessel.

The sector issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to alert boaters in the area. Coast Guard rescue crews from Station Little Creek, Va., and Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. were dispatched to the scene.

The six people have been recovered. Four were recovered by boat and taken to the Virginia Pilot Association station where they were transferred to local EMS personnel for further treatment. The other two were recovered by a Coast Guard helicopter crew and taken to Norfolk General Hospital.
