CAPE MAY, N.J. - Local veterans joined Capt. Cari Thomas, the Commanding Officer of Training Center Cape May, in a wreath laying ceremony today at the training center’s parade field to honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives to serve our country. Three wreaths were placed in front of Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro’s statue. Munro is the only member of the United States Coast Guard to receive the Medal of Honor. Munro received the award posthumously for his actions during the Guadalcanal Campaign of World War II. U.S. Coast Guard photo/Chief Warrant Officer Veronica Bandrowsky
